Tamil stars credit successful careers to their mothers

Sri Krishna Sweets organised the seventh edition of an annual event Salute to Mothers, which brings to the fore the women behind successful people.

CHENNAI: Recognising the value of mothers in the lives of celebrities, Sri Krishna Sweets organised the seventh edition of an annual event Salute to Mothers, which brings to the fore the women behind successful people.

“It is an auspicious occasion to celebrate motherhood, and for children to pay respect to the mothers who have lived and sacrificed much for their wards’ well-being,” said M Murali of Sri Krishna Sweets. The ceremony was inaugurated by Geetha Varadarajan, mother of Major Mukund Varadarajan who was martyred in 2014 during an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir.

This year’s edition saw mothers of important people being recognised — Alamelu Venkataraman (mother of dramatist S Ve Shekher), Arul Mary (Sujith Kumar, founder, Maatram Foundation), Arul Mary (RJ Balaji), Lalitha Sivakumar (Carnatic musician Nithyashree Mahadevan), Dr Manamalli Sivaraman (Dr Ananthakrishnan Sivaraman, consultant urologist, Apollo Hospitals),  K Padma (KK Anand, founder, Smart Edu Group), Radha Mohan (Vijay Narayan, senior advocate, High Court), Seetha Subramaniam, (Ravi Veeraraghavan, partner, Deloitte Haskins and Sells LLP), C Thulasiammal (C Deverajan, MD-URC Constructions) and Uma Prabhakrishnan (Gautham Vasudev Menon, film director).

Each celebrity spent a few minutes sharing their fondest memories of the mother during childhood and how they shaped their values. “I firmly believe that if today I have a proper moral compass, it is because of my mother,” affirmed Dr Ananthakrishnan.

Director Gautam Vasudev Menon, said, “I am very busy with shooting schedules and more, but I always know that my mother is concerned about my well-being,” he added. 

Previous editions saw A R Rahman, Madhavan, Jayam Ravi, Vairamuthu and several others pay tribute to their mothers.
