CHENNAI: Jupiter Events in association with Arcadio is presenting the fourth season of the Naturals Madras Couture Fashion Week from July 28 to 30. The show, which aims to provide a platform for upcoming fashion designers and students to put forth their works, will be choreographed by Priya Manikandan and styled by Prajanya Anand.
The three-day event will feature the works of 13 designers. “There will be five shows every day and 13 designers including Arcadio, Rekha Raghu, Shalini Visakan and Gabicci will be displaying their exclusive designs,” says Satish Jupiter, Jupiter Events.
Every year the fashion week also looks to create social awareness and dedicates a slot for a particular cause. This year there will be an inclusive fashion show by Shalini Visakan under the label Suvastra Designs. The show will have both differently-abled and able-bodied people walking the ramp together. “We have 11 models on the wheelchair with Mr India Wheelchair 2015 Gulfam Ahmed as the showstopper and 11 able-bodied models with Miss South India, Bavithra, as the showstopper,” says Shalini.
Claiming that she is the only person in India to have designed adaptive clothing, Shalini says this is the first fashion show for the differently-abled in South India along with a mainstream fashion show. “Our line includes shirts without buttons for people who have muscular problems. These shirts come with a velcro or a full length zip, that will not be visible on the outside, hence making it fashionable as well as comfortable,” explains Shalini.
Other designs that will be showcased during the three days will include contemporary bridal, Indian fusion, artistic autumn and reinventing saris among others. The show will also see some celebrity models as showstoppers too.
