TNGEA calls for indefinite strike from April 25
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association (TNGEA) has called for an indefinite strike from April 25 to press its demand for the government to hold discussions with employees before a five-member committee submits its recommendations on pay revision.
Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palanisamy had formed a committee of Secretaries last month to revise the pay scales of State government employees in line with the Seventh Pay Commission.
M Anbarasu, general secretary, TNGEA, said, “We have not been called for consultations of any kind so far.”
The association also reiterated its longstanding demands for reintroducing the old pension scheme that was scrapped to make way for the new contributory scheme, and time-scale pay for noon meal and anganwadi workers, panchayat secretaries, village assistants and rural librarians.
The association claimed that it had a membership of more than two lakh employees.
It has announced a series of protests, including a rally on March 15 and a State-level conference on April 15 in which it claimed about one lakh are expected to participate.
The Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association also sought 20% interim relief for the delay in implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.
