Plea in high court for fresh NEET exam with uniform question paper across India

CHENNAI: A Writ Petition has been filed in the Madras High Court to cancel the selection process for undergraduate MBBS courses for 2017-18, after the NEET was conducted on May 7, and for a directive to the CBSE to hold one afresh, which shall be common for all candidates and syllabi.
The vacation judge R Mahadevan, before whom the petition from the mother of a candidate came up for hearing last week, ordered notice to the CBSE returnable by May 24.

According to the petitioner, the test was conducted all over India in all the major languages, including Tamil, English and Hindi.
The questions in English were based on the CBSE syllabus, whereas the questions in Tamil were based on the State syllabus.

The authorities never informed the candidates that the question papers in different languages would not be the same. The CBSE reserved the right and privilege to ask different set of questions for different languages at their discretion.
Had they stated this in the prospectus, the candidates like the petitioner, who took the Higher Secondary Examination in the State syllabus, would have naturally opted for answering the questions in Tamil instead of English.

Hence, the present evaluation system was contrary to law and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution, said the mother of Abi Sheik Mohammed who wrote the exam in English.
She prayed that the court cancel the NEET held on May 7 and order a fresh one, which should be common for all types of syllabi -- State Board or CBSE or any other syllabus. Her interim prayer was to restrain the CBSE from declaring the results.
