CHENNAI: A day after a video of what looked like two boys harassing a girl from the Northeast during a match between Chennaiyin FC and NorthEast United FC went viral on social media, the city police have filed an FIR against two men who are yet to be identified.

The police have formed a special team to identify the suspects. During the match in the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium on Thursday, a group of men, mostly clad in blue, were seen dancing before a group of fans from the Northeast, primarily targeting one of the girls.

The men (one in particular) were seen making the girl uncomfortable in the seats even after one of the boys in the group of fans from the Northeast tried to stop him.

Following the incident, actor John Abraham, owner of the NorthEast United team, had put out an official statement on the team’s Facebook page: “I know that Abishek or myself would never condone this behaviour from our own true fans. I will find you and make sure you are punished and apologise for your behaviour.”
