Proposed Elevated corridor to link Chennai Bypass

The proposed elevated corridor that promises to declog the road to Chennai Airport from Chengalpattu, will be integrated with Chennai Bypass.

CHENNAI: The proposed elevated corridor that promises to declog the road to Chennai Airport from Chengalpattu, will be integrated with Chennai Bypass in the first phase of the project. From there the elevated stretch will go up to Guduvanchery, and from Guduvanchery, it will connect the IT Park. There are proposals to have entry and exit ramps near Chennai Bypass, Outer Ring Road, the proposed new bus terminus at Kilambakkam and IT Park.

The Second Phase will cover the stretch from IT Park to Chengalpattu. The elevated corridor will be an 18-metre wide structure throughout. It will have exit ramps 7.5 metres wide at Chennai Bypass and Chennai Outer Ring Road and IT Park.

The land requirement for the elevated corridor is 17,274 sq metre, which is envisaged in three places where entry and exit ramps are provided in Chennai Bypass Junction, Outer Ring Road and IT Park near Guduvanchery. The report says that 1,300 sqm is required at Irumbuliyur; 2,244 sqm at Peerkankarai; 13,215 sqm at Vandalur; 125 sqm at Potheri and 390 sqm at Thailavaram. The social cost of the project would be around `172.13 crore.
