CHENNAI: An engineering graduate’s passion for makeup made her choose it as her profession. Around two years ago, M Vishnupriya started experimenting and exploring the world of blushes, eye shadows and eyeliners. She got herself trained from Mesmereyes Makeup in the city. “Nobody I know has a connection with makeup. So it was a sudden interest and I am glad I took this direction,” she laughs.

Vishnupriya, who does a lot of bridal makeup, recently conducted a ‘no-makeup look’ demo in the city to teach participants the nuances and tricks of this look that is quite  atrend now. “A no-makeup look is a very subtle look. In fact I have noticed that a lot of South Indian brides prefer this look, because they want to look more like themselves,” she shares.

Managing to make one’s face look like they aren’t wearing any makeup, with the help of makeup, might be a pretty difficult task to do, but Vishnupriya assures that once you get the hang of it, it will hardly take you 10 minutes to get the look. It includes perfecting the skin appearance, lengthening the lashes, and grooming the brows.

There are different kinds of makeup finishes like matte finish — which makes the skin look poreless and leaves behind a powdery finish, and dewy finish — which has an almost moist appearance, hence giving it a radiant look. And in the no-makeup look, the finish depends on the amount of the product applied and also the way of applying it. “In any kind of makeup, it is important to apply moisturiser. There are natural oils in the face, which tend to come out after a point and the moisturiser helps to maintain the skin,” she says, adding that once the face is moisturised enough, the amount of foundation that is used can be minimal as well.

But doesn’t using makeup everyday affect the skin negatively? “Well, yes, using too much make up and that too regularly is harmful, because it is all chemicals. But if you take care of your skin properly, with daily toning, cleansing and moisturising your skin, then that protects your skin,” she explains. Vishnupriya takes inspiration from makeup artists Vithya and Tamanna Roashan. She also has a dream.

“I have heard a lot of designers and makeup artists talking about wanting to work with Nayanthara. It is definitely my biggest dream to do her makeup,” she smiles. The mother of a four-year-old, Vishnupriya would love to conduct professional and advanced makeup workshops in the future and aims to practice and explore more about the possibilities of makeup.
