Taiwan Excellence gaming cup, a three-day gaming extravaganza, is underway in the city

CHENNAI: Taiwan Excellence, in association with Acer and Asus, bring in the elimination phase of Taiwan Excellence (TE) gaming cup to Chennai. The event is hosted by LXG premium Esports Arena, Numgambakkam. “Top eight teams will receive the cash price and one team contains five members. The main game played is CS:Go (counter strike),” said Anish Babu, owner of the gaming arena.

The  Esports events are becoming bigger day by day and now it has reached a  point where it is considered a sports event. They have channels broadcasting it and YouTube channels live streaming it. Even bigger giants like Audi and Mercedes are also in the global esports arena as  sponsors.

“We have been  doing this for the last four years in every metro  city in India. The number of  sponsors are increasing every year since there is an increase in the number of participants. The prize money is also getting bigger,” said Daishik from TE.

The  teams started pouring in after 11 am and they buckled up for a long day.  The e-battle sometimes goes on all evening and is over only by midnight. “This event is a big step towards the esports development especially for small town gamers,” said Ajay from Team Tacbot gaming cafe.

Organisers state that this is the right time for sponsors to pitch in the money since it is a gamble you won’t lose. “When  I started two years ago, we hardly had sponsors but now a lot more are  coming in because they know that this is the next big thing,” said Akhil Raja from team ‘Make Way’.

All 12 teams qualifying for the finale will win guaranteed cash prizes. The winning team will take home Rs 2 lakh. the team that comes second will win Rs 1 lakh. Those winning the third and fourth place will take home Rs 50,000 each. The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth spot winners will take home Rs 25,000 each.

Elimination

The elimination phase will be over by September 3 and finals will be held in Mumbai on October 27 and 28.
