CHENNAI: With the drums, flowers and trumpets, Chennai welcomed the Prince of Udaipur, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, as he inaugurated ‘Shubh’ sweets in Nungambakkam to feed the city’s palatte for sweets. “This is fantastic. They have varieties of sweet from our community too. I am happy that Chennaites will get to experience our way of sweetening,” smiled the Prince while tasting a bit of Jodhpuri ladoo.
The shop, as of now has 80 varieties of sweets from across places of North India, like UP, Bengal, Punjab and Rajasthan. Our sweets under four categories: ghee based, milk (all varieties), cashew/pista and Bengali (pure cow milk),” said Atul Agarwal, owner of the shop.
Open from 10 am to 10 pm, the bakers and also the ghee are from Banaras and Bareli since the founder doesn’t trust packaged ghee. The shop also has a wide variety of mocktails and chats. As a part of the festival season, ‘Shubh’ sweets are offering free sweets to underprivileged kids.
