Three rooms gutted in fire accident at Chennai division DRM office

CHENNAI: Three auditors room, with official files and computers, were gutted in a fire accident at Chennai divisional railway manager (DRM) office located in Southern railway headquarters complex here on Tuesday.

The incident first was spotted by railway workers around 8.30 am at the fourth floor of Chennai divisional office, situated behind headquarters building of the Southern railway in EVR road.

Fumes emitted from the divisional Auditor's room and two other rooms located next to divisional railway manager's room.

The railway workers efforts to control the fire went in vain and all the files in the three rooms completely destroyed.

On information, fire and rescue service personnel rushed the spot and doused the fire.

Officials suspect that the fire may have triggered out of spark due to an electric short circuit. However, an inquiry has been ordered on the incident by railways. " CCTV footages of DRM office complex has been received and being scrutinised to ascertain the cause of the accident," said railway officials.

Periyamet police registered a case and investigation is on.
