Food, jobs and social work...all at one place

Founders of Jimikki.com have the answers for your questions on ‘everyday needs’.

CHENNAI: Whether you are scouring some fresh local produce, looking out for a job, or picking an NGO to work for a cause — no matter how broad your search is, this start-up has an answer for all your queries. Kerala-based Jimkki.com is a web-based start-up that caters to a range of everyday needs in a simple and efficient fashion.

Founded by Deepa Viswanath and Rakhee Martin, who are of Indian origin, based in Australia, the project encompasses three modules — Leaps & Leaves, Earn & Learn and Serve & Shine. It is the joint initiative of these two friends who wanted to create something helpful for the society.

Through Leaf & Leaves, local produce can be made within arm’s reach. It helps in assisting people in buying, selling, swapping or sharing edible home produce. “We came up with this module so that people living anywhere can have access to the native fruits and vegetables. Rather than buying it from the supermarket, they can access it through the click of a button,” says Deepa Viswanath, co-founder of Jimikki.com, that was launched just a month back.

People always want something which is organic and free from preservatives. Through this module, the chances of getting preservative spices is less as these items are bought from Kudumbashree (a government sponsored self-help group for women in Kerala).

Native fruits are also available like amla, chambakka. “Everyone can access the website from anywhere. We are planning to start delivery system in Ernakulam and Thrissur where autorickshaws will deliver the parcels in their return trips,” says Deepa. Any edible home produces — veggies, fruits, poultry, dairy, cooked food, baked items, spices can be shared with the community.

Earn & Learn is a platform to discover young talents to undertake tasks that suit your budget. It also helps the citizens to generate extra income by doing a casual job or task of their interest. If one is good at painting or applying mehendi, they can post a sample of their work on the website and if it gets sold, the amount gets deposited in their account.

The last module, Serve & Shine, is a platform to connect skilled professionals with an organisation for volunteer work, for a social cause, or for skill upgradation. This module is designed to help fresh graduates connect with NGOs for opportunities.
