CHENNAI: On Friday morning, the premises of DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam was filled with an energetic crowd of more than 1,000 students from over 35 colleges across the country. They had gathered to be part of Techcraze 2018, an intercollegiate competition.

Organised and conducted under the students forum, Transcode, by the department of computer science, with the supervision of the staff, the third edition of the fest was inaugurated by Mohammed Sadiq, founder and director, Ukletz. As part of the fest, several technical and non-technical events were simultaneously held in different parts of the campus.

The first of the technical events was a paper presentation by the participating colleges artificial intelligence, mining and security. The rest of the technical events such as tech quiz, tech debate, debugging, gaming and code challenge saw both undergraduate and postgraduate students participating in equal measures. “The tech quiz in particular saw around 40 teams participating in the preliminary round, but only six were chosen for the finals. The questions were really tough, though,” said Hilda, a student of MSc computer Science, Loyola College.

As with all college cultural programmes, the non-technical events were a huge hit with the crowd, especially the treasure hunt organised around the campus. Kavya, final year BCA student from Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, says, “We didn’t expect it to be so much fun, and it was a great adrenaline rush to find clues and guess the next one.” The mime and shipwreck events were also a huge success.

After a short lunch break, the colleges participated in Adzap, movie spoof, 60 seconds to fame and channel surfing events, which were then followed by the valedictory function. The events were judged by members of the entertainment industry including Bala, theatre artist and actor of Aruvi, Sabari, founder, Tamil Black Sheeps, and walk-in judges like Madras Johhny, Arun and Aravindh, casting directors and actress Yashika Anand. “We got a lot more crowd than we expected, and all the students were enthusiastic throughout the day.  It was a pleasure to organise and experience it,” said Aravindh U, president, DG Vaishnav College.
