CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has disconnected water supply to 67 households across the city for illegally tapping water using electric motors from the main water pipeline for the past three months.

Zone six of Thiru Vi-Ka-Nagar had a maximum of 16 erring households followed by zones eight and nine with 10 households each.Such methods are considered illegal according to Metro Water regulations and people who are found following such methods to get more water are liable for disconnection of service. Also, domestic consumers can be imposed with a penalty of `10,000/- and `20,000/- will be levied on commercial consumers.

Metro Water has requested public to inform it about such illegal activities through the board’s website or grievance redress number 044- 4567 4567.

Disconnection & penalty

Erring households will be liable for disconnection of service; and domestic consumers can be imposed with a penalty of `10,000 and commercial consumers  will be levied `20,000
