CHENNAI: Metro rail services were disrupted for nearly 20 to 30 minutes on Sunday evening after a train malfunctioned at Kilpauk station.

While Chennai Metro Rail spokesman claimed that the services were restored within 10 minutes,  sources and Metro rail commuters said that services were paralysed for 20 to 30 minutes with a single line being operated until the train concerned was towed back to Koyambedu Metro station by using another train.

Direct services from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount and Airport were hit for some time and trains were run up to Shenoy Nagar. Interestingly, Metro Rail sources, on condition of anonymity, blamed the disruption to engaging contractual employees who lacked the requisite training given to a Metro Rail employee.

“The entire issue could have been sorted out if employees who had adequate training had been asked to handle the issue,” sources said.
