‘Why no action against people who posted comments on CJ’

CHENNAI: Taking a serious note of some persons posting remarks on the social media against Madras High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and her companion judge M Sundar for their judgment in the 18 MLAs disqualification case, Justice N Kirubakaran wanted to know the action taken by the State against such persons.

Presiding over a division bench, the judge regretted to note that the State had not taken any action against the miscreants. The judge was of the opinion that a judgment can be subjected to discussion, but not the judge or judges, who have delivered it.

The bench, the other judge being Justice R Pongiappan, made the observation while hearing a petition relating to a tenancy dispute in Karpagambal Nagar in Mylapore, on Tuesday.

“What action you have taken against the persons who posted comments on the CJ. Will you tolerate if any such comments are posted against the Chief Minister or the other Ministers or against the higher officials. You may have immediately suo-motu taken action,” the bench said. Directing the AAG to submit action taken against persons who posted comments against the judges, the bench posted the matter.
