18-year-old dies trying to save a drowning boy

While taking bath in the sea, Pandiyarajan noticed a boy struggling in the water. He tried to save the boy, but eventually started drowning.

CHENNAI: The body of an 18-year-old boy, who tried to save a class 11 student from drowning on Saturday at the Marina Beach, was washed ashore on Sunday evening. A Pandiyarajan (18), a resident of Navalar Street in Saligramam, went to the Marina Beach on Saturday evening. 

“While taking bath in the sea, Pandiyarajan noticed a boy struggling in the water. He tried to save the boy but eventually started drowning. Meanwhile, the fishermen nearby were alerted by the Marina police and they managed to save the boy identified as 16-year-old class 11 Lokesh from Adyar,” said a police officer.

The fishermen tried to save Pandiyarajan but in vain. On Sunday evening, Pandiyarajan’s body was washed ashore at Pattinapakkam. The Pattinapakkam police recovered the body and sent it to the Royapettah government hospital. Pandiyarajan was a second-year polytechnic student.
