Government tells hostels in Chennai for children and women to get registered

Those found guilty of running unlicensed hostels and homes will be punished, the release said.

CHENNAI: In order to ensure the safety and welfare of women and children, hostels and homes for children and women in Chennai should be registered with the state government. According to a release from, A Shanmuga Sundaram, Chennai District Collector, all institutions running hostels and lodging house for children and women should compulsorily register themselves under the Tamil Nadu Hostels and Homes for Women and Children (Regulation)  Rules 2015.  

Those found guilty of running unlicensed hostels and homes will be punished, the release said, adding that for further clarifications, the institutions could get contact district social welfare office. The Collector has also given a one-month deadline for the unlicensed hostels and homes to register themselves.
