Rs 250 crore makeover push for North Delhi

An expert will also be hired to advise on the plan of work to develop high-rise residential and commercial complexes.

NEW DELHI: Some areas of North Delhi are all set to get a facelift as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to take up massive housing and re-development projects worth around `250 crore within next six months.
An expert will also be hired to advise on the plan of work to develop high-rise residential and commercial complexes.
A 22-hectare land housing five staff quarters on Minto Road, Bunglow Raod, Model Town, Azad Puri and Idgah Road will be a part of the project, where complexes will be made for general public.
“A total of 520 two-storey staff quarters spread across nine hectares in Azadpur and 512 four-storey staff quarters on a piece of nine-hectare land in Model Town will be demolished to make way for residential properties,” said a high-rank official in North MCD.
The cash-strapped civic body is eyeing at this ‘golden opportunity’ to earn a revenue of around `10,000 crore through this. A skyscraper has also been planned in the heart of Central Delhi on Minto Road, the official informed further. For development of new residential properties, the NDMC has decided to shift its employees in alternate accommodations.
Similarly, the civic body will also develop its staff colony at Bungalow Road, Kamla Market and land at Idgah.
“This is for the first time we are taking up a development project of this scale,” added the official.
Since, the present structure has a lot of unused space; the new building will have four-times more area. The corporation also has plans to construct underground parking at each housing society.
