New Delhi: The residents of the Department of Social Work of Hostel (DSWH) Delhi University (DU) have launched a signature campaign, after the hostel authority put up a notice that asked all the residents who want to use the common room to wear ‘proper dress’.

The notification dated April 27 that was issued from the warden and provost of the hostel read- “All the residents are advised to come in common room in proper dress. Sleeping, eating, bullying and / or any other indecent behavior is strictly prohibited in the common room”.

“Common room is for both boys and girls. This is exam time and girl students also want to use the room for studies and group discussions. But sometimes they feel offensive and hurt due to disturbing behavior of some boys. These types of things must stop, hence we put up this notice” said P.C Behara, hostel warden.

After this notice was put up, students started the campaign in the hostel against the new rules.

“The notice is in ‘patriarchal’ mindset and is very disgraceful. Thank you for the Disgraceful advice!” wrote a student on the same notice board where the hostel authority had pasted the notice.
