NEW DELHI: With the commencement of admission process at Delhi University many students complained of a faulty system put in place for assisting them on Tuesday.
The helpline number provided by the university to answer and to resolve the queries of students related to admission is handled and operated by the University information Center (UIC).
When Express visited the UIC, there was only one staff operating around a dozen extensions, leaving many calls unattended and students helpless. "It was not possible for me to attend the session as I live very far from the campus.
I contacted the DU helpline many times but no one attended the call, there was no response" said disappointed Heena Malik, a student from Mount Carmel School. "I am the only staff here, so it is not possible for me to pick up all the calls at the same time. There are total 12 extensions with the same number.
Since morning I have attended more than 250 calls from different place. Nearly thousands of calls come from the students and parents every day. I am attending maximum calls as much as I can being a lone staff” said the staff requesting anonymity.
Due to the lack of staffs and the varsities Helpline remaining unattended is creating worries among the students. However, the DU officials promised the students that they will resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a group of students from All India Student Association(AISA) alleged that (ABVP)Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad has attacked the Left-affiliated students who were distributing pamphlet which contained information related to admission. A complaint has been filed by the student's group AISA at the Maurice Nagar police station against right-wing student group.
