NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have busted a fake job racket and arrested the mastermind after receiving a complaint from Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD).

The main accused, Sumit Kumar (27), is a law graduate who was raising funds through a fake website registered in the name of Women and Child Development Organisation, which resembled the name of the ministry.

The police said the gang had duped about 4,000 gullible people. Sumit has been arrested but his two accomplices are still at large.

During the investigation, it was found that while pursuing LL.B., Sumit came in contact with Navita Nagpal and Anup. In March this year, the trio got the website registered and started offering jobs.

“Sumit uploaded an advertisement on the website for recruitment of teachers and other posts against more than 6,715 vacancies. The ad said the applicants had to fill the form and deposit the fees online. Around 4,000 applicants submitted the forms and paid the fees, totalling approximately Rs 20 lakh,” New Delhi DCP B K Singh said.

When the applicants didn’t receive any job letter, some of them filed complaints with the ministry. An undersecretary in the ministry lodged a complaint with the police last month.

“The ministry in its complaint said that an unauthorised organisation/NGO/individual had set up a website, www.wcdo.org.in, and was using the ministry’s logo. It was offering jobs through the website,” Singh said.
