Customs arrests man at Delhi international airport for smuggling gold by hiding it in rectum

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old Indian man has been arrested at the airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle gold into the country by hiding it in his rectum.

The accused was intercepted by the customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here after his arrival from Dubai yesterday, an official statement said.

"A detailed search of his baggage and personal search resulted in the recovery of eight gold bars having a total weight of 934 grammes, which was concealed by the passenger in his rectum," it said.

The accused has been arrested and the gold bars seized, the statement said.
