Inter-state illegal arms supplier in Delhi police net

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old inter-state illegal arms trafficker and recovered ten pistols from him that were supposed to be supplied to the criminals of Delhi-NCR, officials said here on Sunday.The accused, Shivam Prajapati, after completing his basic education did various petty jobs to earn his livelihood and ultimately landed into the criminal world.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) RR Singh said the Special Cell is making continuous efforts to cut the supply line of illegal firearms being brought into Delhi-NCR by MP-based firearms manufacturers-cum-suppliers.

“Information was received that an illicit firearms trafficker Shivam, resident of Satna, MP had procured firearms from one Amit of Rewa, MP and was on his way to Delhi to deliver the consignment of weapons to one of his contacts near the SunDial Park, under Barapullah Flyover,” the DCP said.

The police laid a trap and the accused was apprehended. 10 pistols of .32 bore were recovered and the accused was booked under the relevant sections of Arms Act.

On interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Shivam had come in contact with a firearms supplier namely Amit Yadav of Rewa, MP and decided to work for him to earn easy money. “Amit Yadav has been supplying illegal weapons for a long time and has many cases of firearms trafficking against him. He is also wanted in a case of Arms Act of PS Special Cell,” the official said, adding further probe is on.
