Here come the Zoozoos

The Vodafone ads which feature the egg headed creatures managed to woo viewers with their simple unusual concepts.

HYDERABAD: So who’s the real star in this IPL season? Tendulkar or Dhoni or one of the celebs in the advertisements. Yeah, the stars are in the advertisements for sure, but they are not the lassy, glamorous celebs, but those nutty, alien like creatures Zoozoos, who are funny and speak a language which is as alien. Yet! They strike a chord with the youth and how! The Vodafone ads which feature the egg headed creatures have managed to woo the viewers with their simple yet unusual concepts.

A completely Indian concept, Zoozoos are not animated creatures but men and women draped inside an alien suit. O&M’s brainwave, each ad showcases a product or a service offered by Vodafone.

Explaining the idea behind the campaign, Rajiv Rao, executive creative director, O&M says, “We created a special world in which all the product stories gets communicated - A world which is real, yet different, simple, warm and lovable. All the specific product stories and services get communicated in this world of Zoozoos, making the messages more charming.” During the production, each facial expression was made of rubber and pasted on actors.

The clutter free scenes and the day-to-day incidents in the ads have further catapulted the popularity of the lovable Zoozoos.

The frenzy over the Zoozoos is hard to elude. With the youngsters going ga-ga over them, zoozoos have over 2 lakh fans and has over 200 pages on Facebook alone. On youtube, it is attracting eyeballs, with over 1,14,000 views in the past three weeks alone.

MERCHANDISE Soon Zoozoo merchandise would be available in the form of bags, T-shirts, Key chains and Mugs. So what makes these strange creatures so lovable? Deepali Pavagadhi(21) gushes, ``I like the simplicity of the look, the design has a very few details, which helps highlight their actions. The fact that they are just humans, draped in white, make them all the more interesting, and intriguing.'' Gautham Subramaiam (24) says, ``While I found them irritating in the beginning, now I quite like them. I like the way they present the Vodafone services through various human-like situations.'' The Zoozoos are hilarious, endearing and present a world, which is known, yet not-soknown to us. Vertika Jain (23) feels that Zoozoos are cute and convey the message effectively. On the flip side, Aditya Iyer (20) feels, “The cacophonic effects are annoying, if not irritating.'' Nikhita Arora(22) echoes his thoughts, ``I feel they are a bit dumb and annoying and the hype surrounding it will wear off once the IPL season is over.''
