Moon not sighted, Eid tomorrow

Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday as Shawwal moon was not sighted on Saturday. As there was no evidence of moon from any part of the country, Sunday will be 30th fasting day of Ramzan, according to Qubul Pasha Shuttari of Ruhiyat-e-Hilal, the Moon Sighting Committee.

The committee, which met at the Hussaini Building at MJ Market on Saturday evening, made the announcement after getting confirmation from all the districts and neighbouring states that the crescent has not been sighted.

The committee members said the moon was not sighted even in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai or Bengaluru. As a result, Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in almost the entire country on Monday. The festival is being celebrated on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and other gulf countries.

On hearing the news of the moon not being sighted, Muslims rushed to the mosques to offer prayers.
