EG man appointed ANGRAU V-C

Ending the speculations on the nativity of the new vice-chancellor, Governor E.S.L Narasimhan appointed retired director of research Dr. A Padma Raju for the post at Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), despite vehement opposition from the students and faculty members from Telangana in the university as Raju hails from the East Godavari district.

The post had remained vacant for nearly 18 months due to lack of consensus on the region  from which the vice-chancellor should be chosen.

To voice their protest against the selection of a candidate who does not belong to Telangana, the students disrupted the 113th birthday celebrations of Acharya NG Ranga at the university on Wednesday and threw eggs at the bust of the leader.

“So far we have not received any official intimation on the appointment of the vice chancellor,” said Dr. K.V.S Meena Kumari, registrar of ANGRAU.

Though Osmania University observed a bandh to mark the suicide of a student for the cause of separate statehood for Telangana, the atmosphere at ANGRAU remained peaceful and classes were conducted as usual.
