Junior doctors call off strike temporarily

In the light of high court direction to end the strike, the junior doctors have decided to call off the strike temporarily.

The Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors’ Association (APJUDA) has decided to call off the strike for the time being. “With the high court intervening in the issue we have decided to call off the strike and take legal opinion on the issue”, said APJUDA member Aditya.

A division bench of chief justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and justice KC Bhanu on August 16, while hearing a public interest petition filed by the Hyderabad-based advocate Lala Ramu on the ongoing strike by junior doctors, passed an order asking the agitating junior doctors to either resume their duties or be ready to face punishment, as the strike was categorised as criminal negligence. The bench had assured that it would address the problems of the junior doctors if the strike was called off.

Meanwhile, superintendent of Osmania General Hospital Dr. K Ram Das said that the hospital has not received any communication from the agitating doctors regarding resumption of duties.
