Dance festival for women

Condemning violence against women, the Asmita Resource Centre for Women is organising a dance festival in which two ballets will be presented - Menakaa and Ahalya on September 2 and 3 respectively at the Ravindra Bharathi at 6.30 p.m. and Gandhari, another ballet on September 27.

The ballets will be dedicated to Prajakavi Kaloji Narayan Rao.

Explaining as to why they have chosen women in mythology to condemn attacks on women, Volga, chairperson of Asmita, said violence against women is rooted in history and mythology.

Vasanth Kannabiran, who conceived and wrote the ballets, said they will question what culture means for women and make people think about ideas of cultural icons and symbols.
