Eflu Students Accuse Officer of Fund Misuse

A section of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) students demanded the resignation of Syed Sayeed as the finance and nodal officer for allegedly engaging in financial irregularities.

A section of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) students demanded the resignation of Syed Sayeed as the finance and nodal officer for allegedly engaging in financial irregularities. A student said that Sayeed, who holds five posts, has awarded an entrance notification contract (of about Rs 5 lakh) to his friends without inviting quotations.

“Usually quotations should be invited from different parties and then a decision about who gets the contract should be taken. Not following the procedure is a violation of govt rules,” said Mohan Dharavath, president, Dalit Adivasi Bahujan Minority Students’ Association (DABMSA).

A press release from the students stated that Sayeed has been misusing the grants under Regulation 20 as he recently sanctioned Rs 1 lakh to one of his close friends in the non-teaching staff, wherein he is eligible for Rs 50,000 only.

Shankar Sampangi, vice president, TSA, stated that the university has an MoU with University of Potsdam, Germany, and every year three students from EFLU go to the university under the student exchange program. “For this, an interview panel should be formed to select the three best students. I along with my friends applied for the program and the interviews should have been conducted in November. But till now the panel has not been formed,” said Shankar.

He added that if a panel is formed by the vice-chancellor, he still holds a chance to go on a student exchange program. Maagi Venkanna, president, Progressive Democratic Students Union, EFLU unit, stated Dalit and Telangana students face problems while utilising travel grants and finally do not avail it.
