High drama prevailed for nearly two hours during the general body meeting of the Greatar Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) here on Saturday when GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar abruptly walked out of the  meeting over the remarks made by a MIM corporator.

However, the meeting resumed after two hours of deadlock after both commissioner and Mayor M Majid Hussain agreeing to work  in an amicable environment.

After the commissioner walked out from the council meeting in protest, other senior GHMC officials also followed him.

The trouble started during a discussion on the laxity of contractors that they were delaying the works and that no action was being initiated against them.

The commissioner told the members that the GHMC was facing problems with the contractors and that they were making efforts to sort out the issue and see that pending works are completed. He spelled out the works being taken by the GHMC and proposed works to be taken up in the next two months. Talab Chanchalam MIM corporator M Wajahat Ali Khan accused the officials for delaying  the works in the wards.

‘’Even after assuming charge as commissioner two months ago, you are still saying that the bad roads will be recarpeted but works are yet to start. What is the guarantee that works will be taken up in the next two months?’’ Wajahat Ali asked the commissioner.

Irked over the remarks of the MIM corporator, a miffed commissioner walked out of the meeting.

Later the Mayor held talks with Somesh Kumar and they agreed to continue the meeting. The Mayor told the corporators that if they have any problems they should address the chair directly but make remarks against the officials. Later the meeting was adjourned for Monday.
