City gets 65 percent excess rainfall; road damage estimate in 10 days
“The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has asked National Highways Authority of India, roads and buildings, traffic police to give a written statement to the HMWS&SB with regard to damages on roads due to rains and sewerage lines within 10 days, GHMC Commissioner”, said MT Krishna Babu.
The commissioner who held a review meeting with the officials of Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), NHAI, R&B division, and the Police Department on the maintenance of various badly damaged roads in the jurisdiction of GHMC said that it is only the beginning of the season and the meeting is intended to finalise the strategy to tackle the situation.
He directed the GHMC executive engineer, GHMC and HMWS&SB general manager to take up a joint inspection for identifying problematic areas and to prepare the estimates within 10 days and further informed that the responsibility lay with the superintendent engineers concerned.
The commissioner said that Hyderabad city as a whole has received a rainfall of 355 mm, whereas the normal is 215 mm which is 65 percent extra in this season. The GHMC engineers complained that the restoration works taken up by the HMWS&SB Hyderabad Metro Rail are sinking at many places.
The commissioner further directed the GHMC engineering officials to undertake desilting of culverts and said that each zone must be provided with a dedicated team to take up the deep sewerage cleaning with up-to-date equipments.
The commissioner also asked the superintendent engineers to furnish the statement regarding water logging points within a week and also wants to fill pot holes with hot mix by duly using the roller to derive good results on BT road works.
The superintendent engineers have been asked to personally monitor and clear off all the bills pertaining to desilting by August and further directed the engineer-in-chief, R Dhan Singh to update the commissioner on a weekly basis.
The commissioner further directed the officials to undertake the tasks as per the citizen charter and up load the same on website. He also issued a stern warning that any failure to comply will lead to heavy fines being levied from the concerned officer.
