Fans of Harry Potter, Star Wars and Gladiator, listen up. Collectors Heritage, part of the Windlass Group of Companies, is an online store which retails period costumes, swords, armour, corsets and more. It made a splash at the Comic Con in Delhi last month.
“The aim is to make unique medieval collectibles easily available to Indian customers,” says Sugandh Windlass, COO of the New Delhi-based portal whose parent company, Windlass Steel Crafts (WSC) is the largest sword manufacturer in the world.
“Till now all of WSC items were exported,” explains Windlass, adding this is their “first foray into the Indian market.”
A treat for collectors and movie/ book fans, this seven-month-old portal offers reproductions of knives, swords and shields from medieval Europe, ancient Greek and the Roman era.
We think the Gothic Suit of Armour, the 300 Spartan Letter Opener and the Skull Helmet are big sellers.
“All our products are carefully researched and have a history. Most of our clothing is officially licensed from Hollywood movies,” explains the COO about the products that are manufactured in their factory in Dehradun.
Invest in licensed products from Lord of the Rings, Spartacus and 300: Rise of an Empire (in a couple of months). And if you want to extend the fantasy element, there are costumes as well, from the Fair Maiden’s dress to the Swordsman shirt.
Made for India
Setting up an online store turned out to be a difficult task for Windlass, as they had to modify products to suit Indian laws.
“In India, we are not allowed to sell swords as they come under the arms category. We had to change our product line by permanently mounting the swords on a wooden frame, so that it can only be used as decoration,” shares the alumnus of Georgia State University, who is getting replica flintlock guns from Spain.
Thanks to the response, a physical store in New Delhi is on the cards.
Priced from Rs 600 and Rs 90,000.
