Pointing to a disturbing trend of rising cyber crimes, a 28-year-old techie was arrested at the Bangalore airport Thursday, after he arrived from London, for creating a woman’s fake Facebook account with morphed phottographs and sending derogatory mails to her fiancee. His laptop, cell phone and other incriminating documents were seized.

According to police, Motumarri Venkata Naga Siva Prasad, a resident of Market Street in Bapatla Town, Guntur district, and the victim were chilhood friends. Both are B.tech graduates. Prasad proposed to the woman for marriage, who turned him down. She later got engaged to another person.

The victim lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime police on March 20, 2012, stating that a fake profile was created with her name and her morphed photographs and defamatory mails were being sent to her fiancee, marring her character and spoiling her alliance.

During investigation, and with the help of technical experts, Prasad was arrested at Bangalore airport. He confessed to having committed the offence and said the two were childhood friends, who were quite close.

After getting to know of her marriage engagement with another person, Prasad quarrelled with her and threatened her with pictures he had taken in good faith.
