Women's welfare tops government's agenda: Sunitha

If given a proper opportunity and support to prove their mettle, women can excel in all fields on par with their male counterparts, said minister for women development, child welfare and self-help groups, V Sunitha Laxma Reddy on Friday.

Speaking at a function on the occasion of International’s Women’s Day at buyer and seller meet and presentation of awards to women entrepreneurs here on Friday, the minister said women are moving ahead in all fields through their hard work and talent. She handed over loan sanction letters to the women. 

She said state and central governments are committed to the welfare of women and would extend all required support to help them excel in their area of interest. “We are implementing various schemes for women and the state government has established an exclusive bank for women called “Sthreenidhi Bank” by providing `1500 crore to help the self-help groups,” she said.

COWE president, Soudhamini P in her welcome address said COWE’s mission is to enhance women’s opportunities in achieving the vision by creating a resource base of technical know-how, management, marketing skills, finance and infrastructure.

She said that COWE is endorsing the efforts of the central government in creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs for business to business discussions.

She said COWE brings women entrepreneurship towards integrating with government programmes, help women vendors in facilitating interactions with PSUs and other major industries.

The minister presented best entrepreneurs awards to 12 entrepreneurs in different fields. They include Geetha V Nair, Namitha Banka, Goli Shyamala, P Kiranmayi, Renu Rao, Diplai Mehta, A Vijaya Sharada Reddy, G Latha Kalyani, YSR Rajeshwari, P Sudha Reddy, Gopi Lavaanya and Sashi Nahata.
