A 10-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her brother-in-law at New Bus Stand locality in Mominpet police station limits Sunday night. The accused is still at large.

The victim’s parents, who were out of town when the incident took place, lodged a police complaint on Monday when they returned home.

According to police, at around 10.30 pm Sunday, when the girl was alone at home, K Raju, a resident of Mominpet in Ranga Reddy district, entered her house, reportedly in a drunken condition and sexually assaulted her. He then strangulated the child to death.

The victim’s parents noticed the girl lying on the ground. With the help of locals and relatives, they lodged a complaint stating that Raju was involved in killing the girl.

Case against him was registered under section 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the IPC.

This incident is close on the heels of two rape cases, which also took place on Sunday. A nurse was sexually assaulted in a moving vehicle in Parigi of Ranga Reddy district by a home guard attached to the Parigi police station. In another case, a mentally challenged woman was raped and abandoned in Trimulgherry by a GHMC garbage truck driver. The accused was arrested by the police.
