Sending across a stern warning to tipplers, 23 persons, who were caught for drunken driving, were convicted and sent to three-days imprisonment by a local court here Tuesday. The court also imposed a minimum fine `2,000 on the other violators. Their vehicles were detained.
The 23 were among the 318 cases that were registered against drunk drivers during the weekend policing conducted by the traffic cops on March 15 and 16. This is the first time that such a number has been jailed.
They also attended the compulsory counselling sessions at Traffic Training Institute at Begumpet and Goshamahal on Monday. Later, they were produced before the Third Metropolitan magistrate B C Rayudu.
