Woman tries to end life near top cop’s office at Basheerbagh

A 45-year-old woman’s bid to end her life by consuming toilet cleaning acid at city police commissioner’s office at Basheerbagh Tuesday was foiled by the police personnel deployed there.

At around 3 pm, Veeramani came near the commissioner’s office and consumed toilet cleaning acid. Policemen noticed her collapsing and rushed to her aid. They also alerted the Narayanguda police, who shifted the woman to Gandhi hospital. The woman’s condition is stable.

Police said Veeramani, a divorcee, has two daughters. The elder daughter, Lakshmi Prasanna, is married and stays at Addagutta.

A case under Section 498-a (husband subjecting woman to cruelty) was registered at the Musheerabad police station against Prasanna’s husband.

In December last year, Veeramani reportedly went to Prasanna’s sister-in-law’s house located at Chikkadpally and picked up a quarrel, after which both parties lodged a complaint against each other. Cops registered petty cases against both sides.

Police, who conducted a preliminary inquiry, said Veeramani tried to end her life as her daughter’s marital life was ruined and also because cases were registered against her unnecessarily.
