Cong seeks CBI probe into crimes of Nayeem

HYDERABAD: Opposition leader in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the activities of  slain naxalite-turned-gangster Nayeemuddin who was killed in exchange of fire with the police on August 8.

Speaking to reporters, Shabbir Ali said the seizure of cash, arms and ammunition and land records shows the gravity of the criminal activities Nayeem and his gang were involved. “The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the government would not be able to conduct multi-dimensional, multi-disciplinary and inter-state investigation.

The Income Tax and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) would be able to trace the origin of illegal cash and how it was accumulated,’’ he said. He added the land documents recovered from Nayeem and his associates shows that the gangster’s web was spread across AP, Goa, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The SIT will not be able to conduct this inter-state investigation, he opined.
