Eight held in Bahadurpura for robbing Rs 58L in new notes

The Bahadurpura police on Thursday arrested a gang for robbing `58 lakh in new notes from a businessman who had struck a deal to exchange their scrapped banknotes. 

HYDERABAD: The Bahadurpura police on Thursday arrested a gang for robbing Rs 58 lakh in new notes from a businessman who had struck a deal to exchange their scrapped banknotes.


On coming to know that the businessman has lakhs of rupees in new currency notes, the gang allegedly entered into a deal with him to exchange old notes for 25 per cent commission, police said. Accordingly, the businessman Divesh Agarwal brought `58 lakh in `2,000 and `100 denomination in the intervening night of December 4-5 near GHMC playground. They then thrashed the businessman and fled with the cash, police said. Acting on a complaint by the victim, police nabbed the eight members of the gang last night. One accused, Monu Singh is absconding.


“The accused thought that the money was unaccounted and the victim will not complain to the police,” South zone DCP Satyanarayana said on Thursday. 


“As much as `52 lakh cash has been seized. We informed the Income Tax department to inquire into the cash,’’ the  DCP said.
