HYDERABAD: Hyderabadis were the highest to say that they took less vacation days than awarded.

habits across multiple countries and cities, revealed the fact. The survey, which ranked India as the fourth most vacation deprived country, globally also found that for the Hyderabadis, the fear that important work decisions will

be taken without them (#1, 25 percent) and taking all of the vacation time will be perceived negatively by their employer (#1, 20 percent), and the propensity to get money in exchange for unused vacation days (#2, 35 percent), kept them from taking all their vacation days.

“The Hyderabadis are the number one to typically go without a vacation for a year or more (17 percent)”, said Manmeet Ahluwalia, Marketing Head, Expedia in India.

“Hyderabadis also feel that regular vacations are important to their relationship with their signifi cant other (#1, 100percent). They are most willing to sacrifi ce their internet (#1, 48 percent) and smartphone (#1, 34%) for a week for an extra day of vacation and #1 to spend time at work planning their vacations (58 percent),” he informed.

HYDERABADIS’ REASONS
FOR NOT TAKING VACATION
 I want to bank them/carry them over to next year for a longer vacation
 Work schedule does not allow for vacation/ not enough staff to cover
 Lack of money/cannot afford to take holidays/vacation
 It is diffi cult to coordinate time... that works for me and my spouse/partner/family member/friend’s schedule
 I can get money in exchange for my unused vacation days
 Personal schedule does not allow for vacation
 I feel like important work decisions will be made without me
 I fear that taking all of my vacation time will be perceived negatively by my employer
 I think that not taking all of my vacation time will be perceived positively by my manager / employer
 I usually use all my vacation time due to illness
 None of my colleagues use all their vacation time
 My manager does not use all of his / her vacation days
