IS 'Shaitani', Not Connected to Islam: Asaduddin Owaisi

Says he won’t be cowed down by threats; A big crowd of supporters gather at MIM office in his support

HYDERABAD:  Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi has played down the threat held out by the Islamic State and said he wouldn’t be cowed down by the terror outfit. He termed the IS a ‘shaitani’ (devilish force) and said the evil group had no connection with Islam at all.

The Hyderabad MP received threat over Twitter on Wednesday from the IS asking him to ‘shut your mouth’ on the Islamic State if he did not know the truth. The IS described Asaduddin as a ‘disgrace’ to the Muslims of India and warned that it would soon invade the country.

The Majlis leader has been maintaining a strident stand against the IS and asking people to keep away from it. “I receive such threats every day and I am not afraid at all,” Asaduddin remarked.

Learning about the threat issued by the IS, a large number of people turned up at the party headquarters at Darussalam on Thursday to express solidarity with their leader. Many of them were seen making enquiries and shaking hands with Asaduddin.

Reacting to the IS warning, he said all Muslims were against it and renowned scholars had condemned its action.

The militant group had no mercy and was killing innocent persons in the name of Islam. Its evil designs on India would be crushed.

“I am a Muslim but when it comes to the integrity of the country I will not tolerate. Hindus, Muslims and people of other faiths will fight together,” the firebrand leader asserted.

Asaduddin took strong exception to BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy’s remarks on construction of Ram Temple by December when the matter was sub judice. “It amounts to contempt of court,” he said.
