HYDERABAD: Saidabad police on Friday arrested a gang of ten cheats and seized `3.90 lakh and 11 mobiles from them. They are Dhabi Narayana, D Jeevan, D Daya, D Nimiya, Bikili Dhabi, D Raju, D Shankar, D Suraj, Solanki Lakdi and Dhallu Bai, all from Gujarat.
According to the police, the gang members operated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, AP and Tamil Nadu. All members of the family were involved in crimes. They would split into groups, each consisting of five or six. While some of them committed the crime, others provided cover for them.
In some instances, a male and a female member would go a jewellery shop, introduce themselves as hailing from North India and concoct a story about finding a treasure. They would then say that they wanted to dispose of the valuables, mostly gold, at cheaper rates. If any jeweller showed interest, they would produce one or two grams of genuine gold and ask them to get it tested. They would contact the person later and strike a bargain, which if struck, they would take cash and hand over rolled and flee.
