HYDERABAD: As many as 50 students from various engineering colleges have come together for a two-day hackathon to develop digital solutions for day-to-day problems.

The brainstorming session led to some interesting ideas on which the students would be working on till Sunday and will come out with a final prototype by the end of the session.

“The number has been restricted to 50 to ensure that only serious students can make the cut. We are not bothered about the crowd size and want students who are really interested in creating solutions,” Rajat Shahi, founder and CEO of Hackmania, one of the organisers of the event, said.

“The winner of the competition will get a chance to pitch his idea at the Nasscom Product Conclave. There are good chances that the student entrepreneurs may raise funding at the event as there will be investors and venture capitalists in the crowd,” he added.

Innovative Ideas

The ideas ranged from creating an app that would assist in parking at malls or other places to the one which would keep track of water consumption.

App for parking assistance

Parking in malls has become a major concern in cities. Here is what Sai Kiran, a CSE student, proposes.

“We want to create an app which would let users connect to WiFi once they enter the parking lot .They would automatically be shown vacant spots at different levels so that parking becomes comfortably,” he explains.

Tracking water consumption

M Nitin, student of Vasavi College of Engineering, says, “We are creating a model that would keep track of water consumption in houses. If someone is consuming more water, the app will notify him and water will be diverted to the central tank for the needy.”
