Wife smashes husband's head for selling mobile phone to buy toddy

A 45-year woman killed her husband by smashing the latter's head with an iron rod.

HYDERABAD: A 45-year woman killed her husband by smashing the latter's head with an iron rod. The woman was infuriated over her husband selling away their mobile phone for Rs 500 to purchase toddy.

The incident took place at Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar in Saidabad police limits.

The deceased was identified as G Venkatesh, 50. Venkatesh and his wife G Suguna, 45, are daily wage earners.

Last night, Venkatesh and Suguna consumed toddy together at their home. Around 11 pm, Venkatesh took his mobile phone and sold it to a person for Rs 500 and with the amount he purchased more toddy and returned home, Saidabad police inspector Sattaiah said.

While Venkatesh started to consume toddy, Suguna had arguments with him for selling away mobile phone. In a fit of rage, Suguna attacked her husband with an iron rod. Venkatesh suffered an injury on his head and died instantly.

The issue came to light today morning.

"Venkatesh met wiht an accident nine months ago and one of his leg was got infection. He was also unable to attend to work and earn money. Suguna took the responsibility to provide treatment to her husband,'' police said. Venkatesh used to take away household material and sell them for liquor. 

Police registered a murder case and took up investigation.
