HYDERABAD: GHMC gave its nod for laying new road between Greenlands and Necklace Road Commuters on the city roads will soon have some news to cheer about as the long pending proposal for connecting Greenlands Junction to Necklace Road has gathered pace. The Standing Committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has given green signal to the corporation authorities to prepare a Road Development Plan (RDP) for laying 100 feet wide slip road between Greenlands and Necklace Road near Sanjeevaiah Park.

The proposed alternative route, which is about a 2.5 km slip road from Greenlands Junction to Necklace Road, will be a huge respite for motorists as the link road would reduce the heavy traffic load on the Begumpet-Somajiguda-Khairatabad stretch. GHMC officials said that the corporation had come up with the alternative slip road to reduce the heavy traffic load on the stretch. The State government, in 2005, had approved the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad’s (MCH) proposal for laying an 80-feet-wide slip road between Greenlands and Necklace Road. However, the road could not be laid  due to the reluctance from senior bureaucrats living in Kundanbagh. As per the directions of state government, now, the GHMC has decided to take up the slip road for easing traffic congestion. The civic body has decided to prepare a revised RDP of 100 feet road. Officials said that GHMC had approved the RDP for the proposed 80-feet road in 2005. As per the revised master plan 2010 of Circle-10, the said road had been prepared for a width of 100 feet, they added.

A revised RDP had been prepared for 100 feet width as per master plan for providing connectivity to the Necklace Road duly acquiring properties affected under RDP through private negotiations or acquisition as per the feasibility, as required under section 146, 147 of HMC Act and government alienation land as GOMs 571 of Revenue department was put up before and approved by the Standing Committee two days ago.
