HYDERABAD: Damaged city roads have claimed yet another life on Friday. A 26-year-old M Tech graduate, who was riding pillion, was killed after he fell from a bike which skidded on the damaged road at Kukatpally Y-junction.

This is the third such incident within a month in Hyderabad. The two earlier incidents took place in Jeedimetla and Madhapur.

On Friday, Bora Arun Kumar (26), a M Tech graduate from Vasanth Nagar under KPHB police station limits, along with his friend Somasekhar (32), a techie from Hafeezpet, was on his way to attend software training at a coaching centre in SR Nagar when the mishap took place.
The vehicular movement was very less when the mishap took place. When the motorcycle bike reached Kukatpally Y junction, a bike moving ahead of Somasekhar’s bike slowed down and Somasekhar, who was driving at a reasonably high speed, applied brakes. Due to bad  roads, the bike skidded and the duo fell down, resulting in a severe head injury to Arun who was riding pillion.

“Somasekhar was overspeeding. He did not expect that the vehicles moving in front of him will slow down due to the pothole on the middle of the road. Due to loose gravel, the bike skidded,” said Kukatpally SI K Naidu.

The SI said that Arun was well-built. When brakes were applied, the impact threw him some 20 metres from the accident spot. Hesuffered severe injury to head. “When Arun landed, his entire body weight was on his head and it came in direct contact with the road. Though the passers by attempted to rescue him, death was instant”, said the SI.
When asked about the prime cause of the incident, SI Naidu attributed it to bad roads. This is the first fatal accident at that spot, the SI said. Somasekhar, who suffered mild injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital.
A case has been booked in the incident based on the complaint given by Arun’s brother B Srinivas Rao and his body has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
