City college representatives to be appointed by SHE Teams

The second anniversary celebrations of SHE Teams on Monday met with assurances that its services will be expanded.

HYDERABAD: The second anniversary celebrations of SHE Teams on Monday met with assurances that its services will be expanded far and wide.

Speaking at the celebratory programmes, additional commissioner (Crimes & SIT), Swati Lakra said that the findings of a survey conducted by an NGO point that 76 per cent of women in Hyderabad are aware of SHE Teams and the various modes to reach them during emergency.

Looking ahead, SHE teams now has several plans for women safety. As part of this, the teams now plan to include college girls in their functioning.

They would now select a representative from all colleges in Hyderabad to work in coordination with SHE Teams to deal with the problems of girl students.

Underscoring the need of making the city fully aware of the SHE Teams’ functioning, Lakra said the teams would now conduct more awareness programmes in colleges and slum areas under Hyderabad police commissionerate. “We plan to involve uneducated women as well as those living in slums so that we have representatives from each slum to keep in touch with SHE Teams,” Lakra said.

Instilling confidence

Women and girls shared their experiences on instances when SHE Teams came to their rescue.
Swati, a civil services aspirant, said her parents were worried when she told them about staying in a hostel in Hyderabad. However, the swift functioning of SHE Teams, instilled confidence in ther, she said.

Mega Boost

The additional commissioner said the State government has introduced SHE Teams as a topic in the curriculum of intermediate second year Civics syllabus. This was done in order to make students aware abut the concept.

3 held for misbehaving with woman techies

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Monday held three persons for misbehaving with women software employees at different places and produced them before the court for judicial custody.  K Udaya Bhanu Teja, a cab driver, was arrested for misbehaving and harassing a Google employee. Police seized his car and mobile phone. Similarly, Balanagar SHE teams arrested Chakali Srikanth, a cab driver and supervisor I Venugopal for misbehaving with a woman software employee.  Police said that the victim is working with MNC which provides a cab to female employees to drop them to their residence.
