GHMC seeks state nod for building 88K 2BHK houses

HYDERABAD: For the first time, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has sought permission from the state government to give blanket administrative sanction for construction of 88,055 two bedroom houses (2 BHK) dwelling units costing a whopping Rs 7,616 crore.

As per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the GHMC proposes to take up 1,08,560 two bedroom houses in Greater Hyderabad limits.

Of the 1,08,560 houses, the state government issued an order in August this year for 5,050 houses costing Rs 428 crore. Another proposal was sent to the state government in September by GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy requesting the government for according administrative sanction for construction of 15,519, 2 BHK units costing about Rs 1,298 crore.

GHMC commissioner has written a letter to the state government for according blanket permission to 2 BHK houses to avoid delays each and every time.

To expedite the balance 88,055 units based on the availability of sites, the civic body proposed to seek blanket administrative sanction from the state government for the total balance 88,055 dwelling units with the approved unit cost of Rs 7.90 lakh per unit and Rs 75,000 towards infrastructure cost.

Construction of 88,055 dwelling units would cost Rs 6,956 crore and infrastructure will cost Rs 660 crore, totaling Rs 7,616 crore. The share of GHMC for housing cost comes to around Rs 792 crore, ie, Rs 90,000 per unit.
