HYDERABAD: ‘Restriction on entry of poultry farmers and visitors from poultry industry into Nehru Zoological Park, dip foot in water which is mixed with Phenyl, completely stop chicken feed to animals’: These are some of the preventive measures that would be taken at Nehru Zoological Park to control bird flu.

The staff of zoo are not new to such measures, except the ones which put restriction on entry of poultry farmers or animal keepers who have exotic birds at their homes. They were flummoxed after leaning about the restriction.

Curator of the zoo, Shivani Dogra and other officials concerned could not be reached over phone. However, staff of the zoo said that it would be tough to find if a visitor works at a poultry farm or has exotic birds at home. The steps are being taken after bird flu deaths were recorded in Delhi Zoo. “Supply of both the products is stopped and supplement is given to animals now,” said the zoo’s staff.

“Providing anti-biotic feed or fish for seven-days as preventive measure,” as per a press note. It added that ‘Foot baths with phenyl solution may be kept at all entrances of enclosures, may be arranged’.
