No bids for Telangana's flagship, Hyderabad corporation wants norms relaxed

Bidders have shown no interest in the two-bedroom house scheme in Greater Hyderabad, one of the important flagship programmes of the Telangana government.

HYDERABAD: Bidders have shown no interest in the two-bedroom house scheme in Greater Hyderabad, one of the important flagship programmes of the Telangana government.
Now, the GHMC has sought permission from the state government to allow private builders to participate in the tenders so that a sizeable response and healthy competition ensues.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy addressed a letter to MAUD Special Chief Secretary M G Gopal, requesting that the government allow some relaxation in tender conditions.
The corporation wants the government to permit self-declaration by the builders on `100 non-judicial stamp paper, regarding year-wise executed prime quantities of similar nature of works. Successful builders should be registered as civil contractors in any state government department.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) invited bids in two stages in August and September for as many as 4,986 (out of 5,050) dwelling units in 15 locations including infrastructure works in first phase at an estimated cost of `426 crore, but the response was very poor and lukewarm.
In the first stage, 2-BHK houses bids were invited for four locations. For the first two locations, no bidder participated and for the last two, one single bid each was received. In the second stage, GHMC invited bids for 11 locations. For five sites, including Hamali Basthi in Sanatnagar (360),  only a single bid was received.
